Programmed Aging and the Intelligent Design Effect
نویسنده
چکیده
Programmed aging refers to the idea that organisms including humans possess biological mechanisms or programs that purposely limit their internally determined lifespans in order to obtain an evolutionary advantage. To most science-oriented people programmed aging appears to be scientifically ridiculous because it directly conflicts with Darwin’s survival-of-the-fittest concept. Some have compared programmed aging to Intelligent Design or evolution denial, obviously scientifically bogus ideas about evolution. However, as described in this article, most gerontologists now believe in aging theories that are based on post-1950 modifications to Darwin’s concept and multiple modifications support programmed aging. Programmed aging now has strong theoretical support and provides the best match to scientific observations. Programmed aging theories suggest that in addition to the traditional methods dramatically different approaches to prevention and treatment of age-related diseases can be found. Substantially funded medical research efforts based on programmed aging have begun. The existence of Intelligent Design and other pseudoscience concerning evolution has acted against wide distribution of these developments. This has a negative effect on medical research on aging and age-related diseases by inhibiting researchers and public funding.

Intelligent Knowledge Based System Approach for Optimization of Design and Manufacturing Process for Wire-Electrical Discharge Machining
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a method to cut conductive materials with a thin electrode that follows a programmed path. The electrode is a thin wire. Typical diameters range from .004" - .012" (.10mm - .30mm) although smaller and larger diameters are available. WEDM is a thermal machining process capable of accurately machining parts with varying hardness or complex shapes. WED...

متن کاملCharacterization of Copper-Manganese Oxide Catalysts and Their Precursors: Effect of Precipitate Aging upon the Structure and Morphology of Precursors and Catalysts
Copper-manganese oxide catalysts are prepared with an atomic ratio of Cu/Mn=2/1 using a coprecipitation procedure under air atmosphere. The time of aging, i.e., the time that precipitate remains in contact with the precipitating medium, has been varied from 0 (for unaged precursor) to 300 minutes and the effect of precipitate aging time in each atmosphere upon the structure and morphology of di...
متن کاملMTOR-driven quasi-programmed aging as a disposable soma theory
If life were created by intelligent design, we would indeed age from accumulation of molecular damage. Repair is costly and limited by energetic resources, and we would allocate resources rationally. But, albeit elegant, this design is fictional. Instead, nature blindly selects for short-term benefits of robust developmental growth. "Quasi-programmed" by the blind watchmaker, aging is a wastefu...
